AG Garland to Congress: ‘We Will Not Be Intimidated’

C-SPAN: In his opening statement before a House Judiciary Committee oversight hearing, Attorney General Merrick Garland tells lawmakers that the law is applied equally to all without regard to party, race, ethnicity or religion, and that the Justice Department’s job is to keep the country safe, protect the country’s institutions and people’s rights. He says those who work in the Justice Department “pursue justice without fear or favor” and “not do what is politically convenient.” He also says that he is “not the president’s lawyer” or “Congress’ prosecutor.” He also warns against singling out individuals doing their jobs, calling it “dangerous” and says “We will not be intimidated. We will do our jobs free from outside influence.”
