Note: On December 14 of 2021, The G-Man Interviews conducted an exclusive interview with Askold Krushelnycky, an award-winning Ukrainian-American journalist, who sounded the alarm about a potential invasion of Ukraine. The following scenario (and question) was presented to Mr. Krushelnycky.

“This discussion is based on a ‘boots on the ground’ situation, but I want to push the topic into an area that isn’t really being talked about. From The G-Man, which is the affiliate news site for this series, published the following report on October 28 of this year: ‘A Russian national, residing in the Yakutsk region of Russia and in Southeast Asia, had his initial appearance in federal court today after his extradition from the Republic of Korea to the Northern District of Ohio to face charges for his alleged role in a transnational, cybercriminal organization. According to court documents, Vladimir Dunaev, 38, was a member of a transnational, cybercriminal organization that deployed a computer banking trojan and ransomware suite of malware known as ‘Trickbot.’ ‘Trickbot attacked businesses and victims across the globe and infected millions of computers for theft and ransom, including networks of schools, banks, municipal governments, and companies in the health care, energy, and agriculture sectors,’ said Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco.”

If the U.S. imposed sanctions on Russia for invading Ukraine, there’s a strong possibility it would be targeted for a major cyber-attack by Russian hackers or government operatives. That said, wouldn’t an enhanced ‘Trickbot-type’ attack have greater impact on the U.S. than sanctions against Russia?
