The Shutdown – Day 37: Republicans Holds News Conference

C-SPAN: “The future of the Democrats was set in New York City – a 34-year-old Marxist is now the leader of the Democratic party, and it is a very dangerous road for them to go down,” said House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) as he spoke about Tuesday night’s election results and the election of Zohran Mamdani (D) as mayor of New York City. The speaker also said Tuesday’s results yielded no surprises because blue states and blue cities voted Democrat. The speaker’s remarks came as he addressed the press from Capitol Hill on Day 37 if the government shutdown. Speaker Johnson continued to lay blame for the shut down on the Democrats, saying, “as we’ve noted, there is really nothing for us to negotiate … the Democrats have tried to turn that into a game.
