Uncertainty Over Public Policy Impacting Job Hiring, Fed Chair Says

Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell delivered remarks on the U.S. economy one week after the central bank approved its first interest rate cut in 2025. He expressed optimism in the U.S. economy in the wake of the rate cut and reaffirmed he and the board would manage U.S. inflation. Mr. Powell said the rise in costs from tariffs would be a one-time wave, waning in 2026. The Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce hosted the Chair Powell for this discussion at a luncheon with Rhode Island business leaders.
