King Charles III Says Canada Faces ‘Critical Moment’ in Rare Address to Parliament

C-SPAN: King Charles III delivered official remarks to Canada’s Parliament in the capital, Ottawa, the first time a Canadian monarch addressed the legislative body — and many other officials — in nearly 50 years. Much of his message focused on protecting Canada’s sovereignty, which he said would be best done by boosting spending on national defense, its alliances with the U.K. and European Union, and on boosting its domestic manufacturing capability to be more resilient to potential trade wars. The king’s message came just weeks after Prime Minister and Liberal Party Leader Mark Carney took charge of Canada’s government as it entered trade talks with the United States.
