To Proton Mail CEO Andy Yen: What the F*ck Is Wrong with You?

Hey, Yen!

WTF?!?!

I’m a five-year customer, and I’ve raved about Proton Mail to family, friends and colleagues. In fact, many of them dumped their U.S.-based email service providers and switched to Proton Mail because of my recommendations! I believed in and supported your product because you proclaimed Proton Mail was “politically neutral,” but you recently posted comments on social media praising the Republican Party. Really? What the hell, man?

Okay, check this out. You can support whomever you want, but when you take to social media and do something contrary to the company’s objective, I have a major problem with that. A man that doesn’t honor his word cannot and should not be trusted! Period! I’m furious, and I will no longer urge family, friends, colleagues or followers and subscribers of this news site, and there are many, to make the switch!

For the record, it doesn’t matter that efforts are underway to clean up your mess. Many, myself included, are now questioning whether Proton Mail will continue to be a refuge or “safe space” for those seeking email privacy and state-of-the-art security! Many, myself included, are wondering if you praised the GOP out of fear or because you negotiated or will negotiate a deal with the new administration, particularly the Department of Justice, regarding email access. Did you take this into consideration when you decided to post the comment? More importantly, did you even give a shit?

Whether it was intentional or not, a very dangerous message was conveyed to Proton Mail users, and I’m deeply concerned about the company’s “politically neutral” pledge going forward. This situation has really pissed me off because I believed in and supported your product, again, for the last five years. Now, I’m extremely skeptical about you, as a CEO and person, and Proton Mail’s mission statement. According to multiple online news reports, I’m not alone.

Without question, Proton Mail is enormously successful. The same can be said for X (formerly Twitter). However, people are fleeing X by the millions in favor of “Bluesky.” If Proton Mail isn’t careful, it’s going to find itself in the same position. If it happens, your refusal to remain neutral will be the reason why.

This commentary is from the heart and…..from The G-Man.
