Margaret Brennan: The Best Journalist on a Sunday AM Public Affairs Show
CBS News: Tom Homan, set to be President-elect Donald Trump’s “border czar,” reiterated on “Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan” that the incoming administration will concentrate on “public safety threats and national security threats” in its plans for mass deportations starting on “day one.”
I watched this segment, twice, and I loudly applaud Ms. Brennan for not only her line of questioning, but her relentless effort to get Homan to provide direct answers. Hosts on other Sunday morning public affairs shows tend to come across as overly dramatic or solely interested in making headlines for their networks when questioning guests, and they’re truly annoying. What Face the Nation and Ms. Brennan offer is reminiscent of the Tim Russert-version of Meet the Press, Ted Koppel’s Nightline, and Gil Noble’s Like It Is. All of the aforementioned presented a direct and no-nonsense approach to journalism and their show topics, and heaven help the fools who were not prepared when they appeared on the shows. Most importantly, Russert, Koppel and Noble did it without offering subtle opinions, rotating cameras or whimsical exchanges with roundtable analysts or pundits.
I posted this video to not only prove my point, but to show my unwavering support for what I consider to be the best Sunday morning public affairs show and host on network television. I feel confident in stating that CBS icons Edward R. Murrow and Walter Cronkite would be proud. Thank you, Ms. Brennan. Thank you for proving that women can succeed in a position that has typically been dominated by men.
