Supreme Court Overrules Chevron Doctrine 6-3
C-SPAN: The Supreme Court heard a oral argument in Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo, the second of two cases heard by the Count on this day focused on the rulemaking process for federal agencies and their ability to interpret laws for implementation under what is known as the Chevron doctrine. Under this doctrine, courts defer to federal agencies to interpret unclear or ambiguous statutes. The justices would decide whether to overturn this doctrine or to keep it. This second case involves a group of fishing companies and their claim under a federal statute that governs the management of fisheries. The Court subsequently voted 6-3 to overrule this doctrine.
