White House Budget Director ‘Not Optimistic’ About Avoiding a Government Shutdown

C-SPAN: White House Budget Director Shalanda Young discussed government funding and the possibility of a government shutdown, during a breakfast conversation with reporters hosted by the Christian Science Monitor. While responding to a question on House speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) floating the idea of direct budget negotiations with the White House while direct negotiations are happening in the Senate, Director Young called the request “not serious” adding “It’s a long trip down to the White House to do something that could be done right next door.” Other topics discussed included funding a supplemental request for the southern border, election security, inflation and the economy, and military assistance to Israel and Ukraine.
