U.N. Secretary General Warns Nowhere is Safe in Gaza as Humanitarian Situation Becomes Untenable
C-SPAN: In his report to the U.N. Security Council, Secretary-General Antonio Guterres says there is no effective civilian protection in Gaza and warns that the humanitarian situation on the ground is untenable and near collapse and that the conflict could destabilize the whole region. Guterres says an estimated 17,000 Palestinian civilians, many of them women and children, have been killed in Gaza since Israel began airstrikes on Hamas targets following the deadly October 7 attacks. “The eyes of the world and the eyes of history are watching. It is time to act,” he says in closing.
