General Mark Milley: Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair Discusses His Career and Military Strategy
C-SPAN: Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair General Mark Milley discussed upholding democracy and preventing great power wars at the National Press Club in Washington, DC. He gave an overview of World War I and World War II, calling the years between 1914 and 1945, “the most violent three decades ever recorded in human history.” He then discussed current military challenges, including the Russia-Ukraine War, China, and misinformation. In regard to the Wagner mercenary group’s recent revolt against the Russian military, he said it’s “too early to tell” if the incident weakened Putin’s grip on power amid the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. General Milley will step down as the Joint Chiefs of Staff chair before October 1, when his term expires.
