Corey Grable Running for NYCPBA President, Source

“A Change in the PBA Leadership is Long Overdue.”

By Gary Glennell Toms

A source has informed From The G-Man that Corey Grable has visited several New York City precincts and announced he is running for president of the New York City Police Benevolent Association, also known as the PBA. Grable became the PBA delegate at Transit District 32 in 2002, and he was elected in 2011 as the bureau’s financial secretary, where he continues to faithfully represent the bureau and PBA. “As a PBA board member, I began to see a misdirection in the PBA. A misdirection defined as a lack of transparency and a seemingly willful plan of keeping PBA board members, delegates, and the PBA membership uninformed,” said Grable. “This motivated me to run for PBA president. I want to create a new mindset: a new culture within the union, where members’ voices are heard, start addressing modern police issues, and make the PBA relevant again.”

According to Grable, PBA members can fight to get timely and fair contracts, a process he says has taken far too long, so the union can stop wasting time and money. Once this is accomplished, he believes members will be in a far better position to allocate resources and start introducing more services to the membership. “As previously stated, my goal is to get timely and fair contracts. However, I won’t stop there,” stated Grable. “My goals also include making the discipline matrix more fair, producing affordable housing opportunities, developing mental health services,  creating a financial and wealth-building program, and working on establishing a childcare voucher system.” The candidate also believes creating a contemporary mobile application to inform PBA members and keep them up to date on PBA issues is vital. “All of these issues are important to me, but I also intend to repair damaged relationships with the community and legislatures, so we can implement better laws and policies,” Grable said.

The NYPD veteran noted it is vital that that PBA promote, provide and enhance transparency around day-to-day business for its members. “As the next PBA president, I will create open discussions about our contract talks, our political endorsements, our spending on political elections and, ultimately, rebuild faith and trust in the PBA again,” Grable proclaimed.

The future of the PBA, with regard to leadership opportunities, is another issue that Grable is deeply concerned about. “The current leadership has failed at planning and preparing the next generation of PBA members to take over the union. I will organize a to plan to encourage Tier 3 participation in the PBA and update the by-laws to educate the membership, overall, on how the PBA works,” the candidate stated.

Additionally, Grable thinks the union needs to upgrade its infrastructure and better communicate issues vital to the membership. “We can make policies to better serve the membership, better understand their concerns, and better prepare them for challenges in the future,” said Grable. “This is a wake-up call for all New York City police officers! It’s time to express your anger against a 24-year reign that has contributed to dividing this city. A change in the PBA leadership is long overdue, and the change is now!”
