NABJ & GBT to Host Sickle Cell Disease Barriers to Care

Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) is a lifelong inherited blood disorder that disproportionately affects people of color. Beyond its physical effects – including inflammation, multi-organ damage and early death – there are significant emotional and socioeconomic impacts on patients and families. Many patients lack access to care because of the historic lack of research, low disease awareness and a traditionally discriminatory system. This webinar will unpack the social and structural determinants of health that present as barriers to care for the SCD community and health care providers, explore the lived experience of people living with SCD and promote advances in long-term care.
