The Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce, Columbia University, The City College of New York, NYC & Company’s Sustainable Tourism Committee, and The Javits Center have extended an invitation for the public to join them on April 22, Earth Day, for the first of a series of conferences on climate change.
The conference will examine at how the growing risks of rising temperatures, more intense storms and a history of environmental injustice continue to generate disproportionate climate impacts in communities like Harlem. What is government doing to address these risks and how can local stakeholders partner to drive real change in policy?
Local researchers, elected officials and community leaders will come together for the following panel discussions:
I. Disproportionate Climate Impacts in Harlem, moderated by Diana Hernández, Associate Professor of Sociomedical Sciences at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health
II. Harlem-Led Community Solutions and Climate Justice, moderated by Mark Levine, Manhattan Borough President
The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Columbia University’s Low Memorial Library, 535 West 116th Street. The main entrance is located at the top of the steps. For disability access, enter on the northwest corner of the building on Upper Campus. Access to Upper Campus is through an elevator on the north side of College Walk, adjacent to the Dodge Building.
