Girls for Gender Equity Releases Police-Free Schools Resource Guide

The following joint-statement was submitted by Damala Denny and Nicole Hamilton, Organizing Manager and Director of Community Partnerships, Girls for Gender Equity.

Dear Community,

Thank you to everyone who joined us at our first (but certainly not our last) Police-Free Schools deep dive last month! It was an incredible day, filled with community building, inspiring and thought-provoking conversations, the expertise and brilliance of young people, and many ideas for the future. We’re feeling energized and ready to tackle what lies ahead, knowing that we are grounded in our commitment to this work and to each other.

We were so inspired, in fact, that we created a new Police-Free Schools Resource Guide of videos, reading materials, toolkits, and more to support students and school community members as they develop and grow their own police-free schools campaigns. This collaborative guide is a living resource, growing with your suggestions, so check it out now, add your contributions, and share widely!

A special shout out to all the youth organizers who led our February event and made it so amazing: V (#CopsOutCPS), Sydney (Integrate NYC’s Peer Defense Project), and Keyanna (Make the Road NY’s Urban Youth Collaborative) and Cassandra, Ade, Suesuilla, and Enshalla at GGE- you are incredible, and we’re grateful to be in community and excited to keep building together.

These gorgeous gorgeous graphic recordings were captured during various parts of the event by the talented Sara Yukimoto-Saltman.

We’re so grateful for this community, and we’re looking forward to continue building with you all.
