NYC Ad Spending in Community Media Up $5 Million in 2021

The Center for Community Media (CCM) is excited to share an update of its findings in New York City’s advertising spending in community media. In fiscal year 2021, this media sector received a record $15.6 million in city agency advertising dollars, an increase of more than $5 million from the previous year.
In 2019, then Mayor Bill de Blasio issued Executive Order 47 (EO47), directing agencies to spend at least 50 percent of their print and digital advertising budgets on community and ethnic media in the city. Following the order, in 2020, CCM launched its Advertising Boost Initiative to assist print and online outlets in accessing their share of city agencies’ ad budgets.
Last year, the New York City Council passed Local Law 83, permanently committing at least 50 percent of city government advertising to community media, and creating the first ever Mayor’s Office of Ethnic and Community Media.
ABI continues to serve as an information bridge between the outlets, city agencies and advertising agencies.
