Majority Leader Schumer Says Senators Now ‘Face a Choice’ on Voting Rights
C-SPAN: Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer delivers extended remarks on the need to pass voting rights legislation in response to former President Trump’s claims that the 2020 election was stolen and the subsequent efforts by Republican legislatures across the country to change their election laws. Senator Schumer says the Senate will consider changes to filibuster rules if Republicans continue to block voting rights legislation. “Members of this body now face a choice. They can follow in the footsteps of our patriotic predecessors in this chamber or they can sit by just as segregationist-oriented Democrats in the post-Civil War era did and try to have democracy unravel,” he says.
