NOBLE Statement on Kyle Rittenhouse Acquittal

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – The National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE) deepest condolences go out to the victim’s family, friends, and the community in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
NOBLE National President Frederick L. Thomas states, “We have no doubt that with today’s acquittal the victims’ families feel like justice has not been served in the Kyle Rittenhouse murder case and our hearts go out to them. We continue to be deeply saddened by the loss of life in this tragic incident. Again, we are reminded we have much work to do in gun violence prevention.”
Guided by its Justice by Action mission, NOBLE believes with equal commitment in pairing gun reform laws with community policing to increase public safety. As a national organization charged with protecting citizens, NOBLE takes a strong gun violence prevention stance.
“Law enforcement aims to increase trust between the police and community members with grassroots relationship-building and open dialogue. Everyone who cares about the epidemic of gun violence in America needs help from federal and state legislators to continue the momentum in legislative reform. We need laws passed that restrict the ability of underage youth and unlicensed individuals to carry firearms during civil protests,” Thomas said.
As NOBLE continues to be a strong voice in favor of police accountability and policy measures that focus on ensuring the rights of all citizens, the community, law enforcement, and elected officials must partner together for equitable solutions. Additionally, we respect the justice system and its process even when verdicts don’t align with public sentiment. Our goals are best served through community non-violent action, 21st-century police reform, and common-sense policy development.
