Girls for Gender Equity: A Message from Organizing Manager Damala Denny

Dear Community,
I love my job because I get to work with brilliant young people every single day. That’s what we do at Girls for Gender Equity (GGE): we center youth in everything we do, and I’ve been lucky enough to be a part of this work in so many different ways.
Over the past three years, I’ve worked with NYC public school students in Urban Leaders Academy, youth organizers across the country in a National Agenda for Black Girls Steering Committee, and GGE program alumni in the brand new Youth Speaker’s Bureau. I’m grateful for the opportunity to meet and collaborate with so many different young people, and to watch them grow. I’m honored to be a part of the team creating these supportive, empowering spaces that provide young people with the framework, analysis, and skills to make a difference. I am also intentional about celebrating, recognizing, and honoring Black girls and gender expansive youth not only for their labor, but for their very existence – because they deserve it.
Every day, I watch young people step into their power and take the mic on issues from ending gender-based violence to police-free schools. I invite you to log on to the GGE website to learn more about our organization and how you can help.
Thank you.
