Welcome.
The following is an excerpt from an article published in a December 2020 edition of the Detroit Free Press.
“A Michigan woman who says she conspired to have her husband killed to protect herself and her 7-year-old daughter from abuse is asking for clemency, her only chance at freedom from a life sentence in prison.
“LuAnne Szenay says she endured violence at the hands of her husband for 12 years. In 1990, she hired two men to kill Timothy Szenay, believing that his death would be her only way out after police repeatedly dismissed her complaints of domestic abuse.

“She now recognizes her thinking was ‘terrible’ and ‘wrongful,’ according to a commutation application that her daughter filed on her behalf earlier this month.
“LuAnne Szenay is one of seven women seeking clemency with the help of attorneys and students at the University of Michigan Law School’s Federal Appellate Litigation Clinic. All of the women are serving mandatory life sentences for first-degree murder, and abuse played a factor in their crimes.”
Update – March 18, 11:34 PM (EST)
Jennifer Szenay submitted the following statement to From The G-Man regarding the Detroit Free Press article.
“My mother only spoke to Blau. She had never spoken to England or arranged anything with him. It’s more like she consulted with Blau and then he decided to outsource. The Detroit Free Press article says ‘she hired two men’, but she really didn’t and I feel like they were misleading in writing that. It implies the three of them had a meeting, and that never happened.”

For this very special edition of The G-Man Interviews, I welcome Jennifer Szenay, the daughter of LuAnne Szenay. Ms. Szenay is a fourth-year student at Wichita State University studying psychology and a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. The Prison Radio intern is the mother of a 20-year-old son and serves as a volunteer for several Michigan-based non-profits. She is also a former salon owner and describes herself as a passionate advocate for social justice and humane treatment of the incarcerated.
For the very first time, she’ll share information regarding the violence her mother was subjected to and her mother’s role in the killing. She’ll also discuss how her mother has fared after nearly 31 years in prison, how conditions at the facility pose a serious threat to her mother’s life, and her ongoing battle to have her released.

From The G-Man contacted the Office of Governor Gretchen Whitmer and invited her to issue a statement regarding LuAnne Szenay’s case. Given the fact that the governor has been a fierce proponent of women’s rights for years, From The G-Man also intended to extend an official invitation for Whitmer to appear on The G-Man Interviews to discuss the domestic violence aspect of LuAnne Szenay’s case in greater detail. The office did not respond.
