House Democratic Leader Jeffries Holds News Conference Amid Deadline to Fund DHS

C-SPAN: Jeffries (NY) said during a news conference that “funding for ICE and the Department of Homeland Security should not move forward in the absence of dramatic changes that are bold, meaningful, and transformational.” Funding for the Homeland Security Department and the agency that falls under it, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, expires the next day unless Republicans and Democrats reach an agreement to avert a Homeland Security shutdown. A shutdown would impact the department’s agencies, including the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Jeffries also responded to questions involving Democratic newcomer Analilia Mejia not committing to supporting Jeffries as leader amid her special primary election victory in New Jersey, as well as Jeffries’ assessment of Attorney General Pam Bondi’s recent testimony at an oversight hearing. He alliteratively referred to Bondi and other Justice officials as “partisan, pathetic, pitiful, petulant, pettifoggers.”
