Thanksgiving in New York: United Democratic Organization & Hamilton-Madison House Provide Food to Needy Families

By Denny Salas

Hello New Yorkers!

I’m thrilled to announce that because of you, we served nearly 500 families across the Lower East Side. Thank you!!!

I also want to thank Hamilton-Madison House, which worked with us in making this a community-based fundraiser, and Winston Chui, who always assists us in acquiring and delivering the turkeys and other food items.

Additionally, I thank church and housing leaders Cynthia Gardner-Brim, Tanya Castro-Negron, Janice McLaurin, and Camille Napoleon. As a result of their dedication and hard work, our beloved neighbors will have a great holiday!

We served families at Mariners’ Temple Baptist Church (8 Oliver Street), Lands End 2 (265 Cherry Street), Rutgers NYCHA (65 Pike Street), and Baruch NYCHA (300 Delancey Street). 2024 marked the fifth year we were able to do this and expand to other areas. Forgive me for feeling a little nostalgic. I initially launched this effort while running for political office and, understandably, many felt I had ulterior motives. Well, I’m not running for anything now and we’re still going!

When you can do something to help others, please don’t hesitate to do it. I’m thankful to our team at the United Democratic Organization for helping to lead this annual effort.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your families!
