C-SPAN: Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer files Cloture to advance the nominations of General Eric Smith to be Marine Corps commandant, General Randy George to be Army chief of staff and General Charles Brown to be chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The nominations have been stalled for several months over Alabama Republican Senator Tommy Tuberville’s opposition to a Pentagon abortion travel policy. Senator Schumer accuses him of abusing his Senate privilege to hold up nominations and disrupting the lives of military families, warning that “this is not a sustainable path.” Senator Schumer warns colleagues to expect votes through the weekend on the nominations, saying, “While we Democrats did not choose this fight, we are ready to end this sooner rather than later.”
