Scott Gorham and Konstantine Vlasis have each been awarded a grant to support their public engagement work. Public Humanities Grants are awarded to advanced graduate students by the Humanities Centers Initiative (HCI), a consortium of eight universities located in New York state that is overseen by Humanities New York.
Scott Gorham (Master’s Student, Arts Politics, Tisch), project: the MACO Garden
The MACO Garden is an empathy development workshop to explore the question, “How do we use empathy to move forward with an anti-colonial practice?” Participants will design MACOs (Magical Affect Connection Objects) from clay, and use embodied filmmaking to imagine interstellar subjectivities. The MACOs and videos will be hosted online in a 3-D environment known as the MACO Garden.
Konstantine Vlasis (Doctoral Student, Music, GSAS), project: Sonocene
What does the climate crisis sound like? Sonocene is a podcast series that examines the climate crisis through sound, music, and other auditory materials. Episodes will feature public-facing narratives about an ecological theme by analyzing a particular sonic phenomenon.
