NOBLE Honors Lives Lost at the 34th Annual Candlelight Vigil

Alexandria, Va. – From its headquarters near the heart of our nation’s capital, the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE) shares its pride in honoring law enforcement officers and survivors during National Police Week, May 11-17, 2022.

Established in 1962 by a joint resolution of Congress and signed into law by President John F. Kennedy, National Police Week recognizes all law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others. The week is highlighted by the National Peace Officers Memorial Day, May 15. National Police Week draws between 25,000 to 40,000 law enforcement officers and survivors each year to the nation’s capital and comprises several events.

NOBLE will participate in the 34th Annual Candlelight Vigil hosted by the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund that takes place on the National Mall. The vigil is part of National Police Week and will be held at the nation’s U.S. Capital in Washington D.C. on  May 13 at 8 p.m.

To mark the ultimate sacrifice and pay homage to the 619 law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty, each name has been engraved on the walls of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C. With family in attendance at the vigil, names of fallen officers will be read aloud; in addition to family members, the event will be attended by high-ranking government officials and local, state, and federal law enforcement officers, including our own NOBLE National President Frederick L. Thomas.

“We recognize the fallen brothers and sisters in blue who sacrificed their lives in the name of protecting our communities,” said NOBLE National President Frederick L. Thomas. “Advancing the cause of justice in our communities is a great honor and responsibility for our law enforcement officers; sometimes this professional calling comes with great risk.”

NOBLE welcomes all law enforcement officers and survivors to the 2022 National Police Week Candlelight Vigil. The vigil starts at 8:00 p.m. on the National Mall between 4th and 7th Streets and Madison and Jefferson Drives in Washington, D.C and will be live streamed.
